Spaceships were happy to provide Jay Reeve, presenter on New Zealand's premier music channel, MTV and participant/announcer at the Hyundai Pro Longboard Competition, a vehicle for his recent adventure on the tour in Kaikoura...

Southern Sojourn.
The pick up was Christchurch, the drop off was Auckland and as in all journeys the start and finish bore little to no relevance to our adventure.

The 'X' on our New Zealand treasure map was on the east coast of the South Island, a beautiful coastal town called Kaikoura. A tourist epicentre on State Highway 1, where paua jewellery is the meat and two vege for both tourist and local alike. In true southern fashion Kaikoura continues to shun its northern brothers' horrible fashion sense and have steered well away from grotesque corrugated iron sculptures of any local icons, for this I applaud.

The Hyundai Pro Longboard tour had rolled in to the town like a gypsy circus with our own special blend of clowns, old angry bears and little people, needless to say all daughters were locked up and husbands kept an ever vigilant eye on their wives.

The Kaikoura coast has a rugged beauty that steals every breath you draw. Round every corner on our number one highway the Spaceship windscreen frames yet another master piece, the beginning of the Southern Alps stumbles to the waters' edge before diving in. The ocean provides dolphins, whales and seals with a dance floor that is never empty and a seafood 'super market' deserved of its christian name.

Lovely memories are best when shared with one that you love, both my girlfriend and I now pine when a Spaceship camper passes. We remember how the Spaceship was the torch that lit the New Zealand country side that we drifted through. The drive from Christchuch to Auckland on New Zealand's major arterial line pumbles every possible sense you possess. As a uninformed child famously once said " some times I leave and just want to go back there".
