Oxfam Trailwalker NZ

Oxfam Trailwalker NZ: The World’s Greatest Team Challenge

Spaceships NZ are pleased to supply two vehicles to support teams for the Oxfam Trailwalker Challenge in 2008 and 2009! In 2008 we supported Team Strider who were members of the Rotaract Club of Pupuke. In 2009 we're sponsoring the team '3 Jocks and a G'.

Oxfam Trailwalker NZ is an annual fundraising event organised and promoted by Oxfam New Zealand. Funds raised from the event will support Oxfam New Zealand's humanitarian, development and advocacy work to lift some of the world's poorest people out of poverty.

Update Wednesday 15th March 2009

What a day. Well nearly a full day. 6:00am start. Cold and dark. 17 hours and 9 minutes later in the cold and dark we jogged over the finish line in 8th place. The 5th full team to finish (all four team members together for all 8 legs), and the 3rd mixed team. All very pleased with ourselves. The toughest event any of us have ever done, other than Andy, who walked it in 33 hours last year – he says he preferred the 17 hour version. A fantastic event involving 289 teams, over 1100 competitors. Along with the long training hours, we also went about raising money for OXFAM, to date we have raised over $4,500, our donation page will stay open for another month or so – perhaps we’ll crack the $5,000 mark! A great big thank you to all who sponsored us.
A word of thanks to our tremendous support crew, Martyn, Emma, Tom, Janina and Rowena. They kept us going, with food, drink refills, rub downs, sock and shirt changes, and most importantly encouraging words. We spent each leg discussing ways we could stop them piling food into us, while they discussed strategies to get us to eat more. It was great running into the Check points, hearing the cheers of our crew and spying the Spaceships.
Finally a big thank you to Spaceships NZ camper vans who donated the two vans for the event, the vans worked out brilliantly, perfect for such an event, where you need to pack and unpack, heat food, wash up and move from Check Point to Check Point.

Cheers,

Team 2 Jocks and a G

Congrats guys for your fantastic effort - both in finishing so well and raising so much money for Oxfam! You're a bunch of legends!  Cheers from Team Spaceships

Update February 25th 2009

Team 3 Jocks and a G, Or Martin, Matt, Paddy and Tara are now well into their training. Starting to peak now and for the next few weeks – with 40km training runs and weekly total runs of around 70 to 80kms the bodies are starting to feel the pressure and pain. We have discovered some amazing trails around Wellington and the Kapiti Coast. Favourite runs have been the Skyline run (20km) from Karori to Kaukau and back, Karori to the Southcoast through long gully and back via the Hawkins Hill (25km), Waikanae River, Te Au track, and of course the Karori Sanctuary Fenceline (or GutBuster) (12km) a regular favourite. A few of us are taking part in the Meridian Energy Gutbuster on the first weekend in March – as it is a mere 12km we’ll probably tag the Skyline run onto the end of it!
Undertaking something like the OXFAM TRAILWALKER will see us push ourselves beyond anything we have ever done before. Incredibly important to us is our support crew, and making sure they can get from Check Point to Check Point in comfort, and provide the support we will need at each stop is vital. The Spaceship vans looked like the perfect  vehicles for us, so we were very grateful when they offered their support free of charge. We certainly intend to use the vans to the max – I’m sure the MP3 and DVD systems will get a good going over by our supporters as they wait for our arrival at each of the eight Check Points. If you are in the area come along and have a look at the vans on the weekend of the 4th and 5th April.
So a great big THANKYOU to SPACESHIPS for their support. See you at the finish line!!

Update February 11th 2009

On 4th/5th April 2009, us 4 toned and elite athletes are hoping to RUN (ok, there might be a wee bit of walking involved too!!) the incredible distance of 100 km over beautiful New Zealand countryside. Why? That's a damn good question! Mostly because Tara forcibly persuaded us into doing it, partly because the training provides a great way of earning lots of beer tokens, and also because we want to raise oodles of cash for Oxfam, to help them continue to do their awesome work. So, dig deep folks and lets make sure all our blisters, aches, pains, blood, sweat and tears are worth it!!   Thanks Spaceships camper vans NZ for our vehicles! If anyone would like to donate and help us reach our target for Oxfam (and find out more about our team) you can visit our webpage here.  Our goal is to do 100kms in 12-18 hours and raise $3500!

Update April 7th 2008

We made it! It was a long trip but made so much easier with the support of our crew and Spaceships.
Big thanks to all involced, we managed to raise more than $2000 for Oxfam.

What:
April 5-6 at Lake Taupo
Four people, one goal:
100km in 36 hours to help overcome poverty and injustice!

Having Spaceships on board, with all their unique customised features is going to allow us to take some much needed pit stops along the way!! The trail is out in the middle of nowhere so having a large comfy bed, gas cooker, chiller, light, great sounds and even a DVD player all in the one van is going to make all the difference to us being able to successfully complete our 100km

THANKS SPACESHIPS!
